The Attack and Degrading of Our Military

The US military has been second to none since WWII; our engineering, manufacturing, the ability to fund, and train has kept us the supreme military power in the world for a long time, but will it remain that way? The foundation of our military from the revolutionary war has been “God, Guns, and Guts” to defend this great country but the misuse of our military right before and during the Vietnam War and the politicians control over the military instead of military leaders during this time caused massive US casualties due to the political limiting of our military's ability; they had the ability to win swiftly but wasn’t allowed. Anytime politicians get involved in the military's execution of a battle or war, the only result is more dead American soldiers and the blame game as to why on capital hill. When ever the politicians get involved n the military's discipline and doctrine use end up with lack of discipline, polluted doctrine, and political correctness which led to many incidents including but not limited to the Fort Hood shooting.

Defense spending in 1950 was 54% of the federal budget, this supplied massive amount of jobs and helped the US to protect itself against the world with little left to chance. Before the sixties very few people would take any entitlements because they wanted to work; in 1961 the welfare all inclusive spending was 6% because people had pride and wanted to work, the military spending had dropped from 54% in 1950 to 35% in 1961; we were at this point in the middle of a “Cold War.” Today we have 43% spent on Welfare and Give Me entitlement programs if you take the time and look through the complete budget (click on the + to expand and get a good look) and our military spending has dropped to a dangerous level of 14% of spending. If we were attacked by China or Russia, we would win but at a great cost. If any other nation joined them or they partnered we would loose hands down because we now can only battle one front; we would inflict major damage but the end result would still be the same, our way of life would be gone for our children and grandchildren. I don’t think Defense spending needs to be 54% or even 35% but 20% to 25% firm would be good and have it permanent so congress doesn't have to vote on it anymore and no crazy extra bills can be attached. Unfortunately the military is not only attacked from the outside but also from within. Every test of our Ground-Based Midcourse Defense System (GMD) has failed since 2008; this is our “Iron Curtain.” Budget cuts are probably the culprit; so what else has failed we don’t know about?

When I retired from the military, it didn’t matter to us if you were male, female, black, white, Latino, Asian, Indian, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, gay, or strait as long as when the bullets started flying you had my back like I had yours. I liked it when President Clinton came out “Don’t Ask-Don’t Tell (DADT)” because I knew several gays in the military and it gave them more freedom; I thought it was a good middle of the road compromise. One of my favorite commanders was gay; she knew I and a Christian friend knew but it didn’t matter, we all did our jobs. We respected her position and she respected ours; I do not agree with her life style (I’m old fashion) but it is your life so as a professional from either side you do not bring in that baggage. We can each have our own beliefs and still live and work for the greater good. Unfortunately this isn’t always the case, many gays if caught were persecuted because it was a violation the regulations. Today DADT has been resigned and now the revenge against people like my Christian friend has begun with a vengeance.  A 19-year veteran of the Air Force who is Christian was relieved of his duties after he disagreed with his openly gay commander, “I was relieved of my position because I don’t agree with my commander’s position on gay marriage,” Senior Master Sgt. Phillip Monk told Fox News. “We’ve been told that if you publicly say that homosexuality is wrong, you are in violation of Air Force policy.” I guess now you can’t be Christian in the military; if you are a Christian the Bible calls homosexuality a sin. Why can’t this commander accept his position instead of being unprofessional and classless? The reason, she has been given a green light to persecute any who don't agree with her by our administration; this is wrong. She doesn’t care about the military; if she did she would put personal beliefs to the side and act with class like a professional.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation wants Col. Reyes punished for quoting President Dwight D. Eisenhower according to the Washington Times. Col. Reyes wrote an essay titled “No Atheists in Foxholes: Chaplains Gave All in World War II.” The reference about atheists hails from a 1954 speech by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who said: “I am delighted that our veterans are sponsoring a movement to increase our awareness of God in our daily lives. In battle, they learned a great truth — that there are no atheists in the foxholes.” Why is he in trouble? He is a Chaplin; isn’t this against the First Amendment? The Pentagon has released a statement confirming that soldiers could be prosecuted for promoting their faith: "Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense...Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis.” An Obama administration Pentagon appointees is meeting with anti-Christian extremist Mikey Weinstein to develop court-martial procedures to punish Christians in the military who express or share their faith. I guess what this shows is tolerance only goes one way; this is as Un-American as you can get. I served and defended this country and our Constitution for the right of every Atheist, Christian, and any other to practice their beliefs under a free American; what has happened?

Janet Napolitano, Homeland Security Secretary says Veterans are extremist; she is a Socialist and if you are against her views you are an extremist. Following in her foot steps the Communist News Network (CNN) is singling out stories about vets to say they are dangerous. Senator Dianne Feinstein opposes the military and military veterans from owning guns because "they might be mentally ill, and the possibility alone should be enough to ban veterans from purchasing firearms." The list goes on and on and there has been cases where perfectly innocent veterans have been murdered by these people actions especially Janet Napolitano. Jose Guerena was a victim of Federal Government warnings about veterans. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), in agreement with the Southern Poverty Law Center, wrote a policy that any combat veteran or any American who owns a gun, criminally or legally is a danger to society and should be dealt with as a known criminal because of their potential danger to police. Known criminals; so the military and veterans are like "Known Criminals" to Janet Napolitano. Jose Guerena, an honorably discharged Marine veteran with no criminal record at all was shot 22 times because he was a veteran or  excuse me; a "Known Criminal."

The morals, professionalism, work ethic, integrity, and the class the military once carried has been eroded and the place of honor where the military and veterans once stood has been changed to a hit list for Homeland Security. Jose Guerena is only one of many who this has happened to and now by their own actions we have a government in place who wants to destroy the military and it’s veterans. Veterans have always been political pawns and did it without batting an eye because it was our duty and we had pride; now that we are targets I don’t know what to think. Our military has been attacked by politicians from the outside and betrayed by our leadership from the inside; now what do we do? I don’t know how we will get this turned back toward the right direction, but if we don't soon there may be no chance; can you speak Mandarin

Update: Over 40% of our military qualify for welfare; this is deplorable for the richest nation on earth. Over the past 50 years the average pay raise per year has been average 4%. When pay military pay is set by the president and congress, it caries 2 years after the president leaves office because of forecasting which means 2009 and 2010 pay raise are the result of President Bush and 2017 and 2018 will the result of President Obama. The military pay raises are to keep up with inflation; the pay raises and proposed pay raises for our troops in harms way under President Obama is 1.24% with 2015 being 0.5%; this while every social program for people who refuse to work has been raised an estimated 40%. Thanks Mr. President and US Congress for taking care of our troops.
